I have a 1980 Uniflite 320 Sport Sedan with twin 350s. Just bought the
boat and trying to get her home approx 50 miles. Neither engine ran
when I bought the boat, but the port side was very close. I had a
diver go down under her and he told me that the port side prop was
demolished and not much was left. As I got a really good deal I didnt
mind as he said the starboard was intact and looked fine. Once i got
her home, I could get her pulled and start over as I had already
planned to repower. Well, a month later, I tore down the starboard
side, all new gaskets and put it all back together. Did a compression
test and what do you know, my number 7 and 4 cylinders have low
compression. Rings are stuck(I assume) oil in cylinder trick. I am out
of time at the current marina. Need to find a way too get some
compression in those 2 cyl. Just need her to put on down. Is there any
way to possibly nock them loose without dropping the whole lower? I
have plenty of room to do lower work under the motor, but if I have to
go through all that I would be dumb to not replace the motor.
Problem... the marina where she is doesnt allow you to work on your
boat there and the dockmaster has very curteously allowed me to do
some minimal repairs during the day. When 5 o clock rolls around and
the staff leaves, my neighbor and I have a version of the marine shade
tree mechanics on the dock. Is there any way to loosen the rockers to
get a little bit of compression? I have heard also or running it on
rear end gear oil and having success. If it made it the whole way,
great if it made it 20 miles, that would only be 30 miles left to tow
it. Not worried about the motors at all and the closest marina to get
it pulled is...mine. Any tricks or suggestions on how to get her fired
up would be great.
