Wally,

I had a 27 Sportfisher with flybridge that came to me with a volvo 280
that I converted to a duoprop. Yes a huge difference. I started with
a b4 and then went b5... but I had a 454 and the 1.95 ratio when I
should have had the 1.65 or so ratio drive. At any rate I could put
any volvo prop combo on it and it would reach top rpm and part of the
problem was when uniflite gets up and flying on step as you add more
speed the hull will nose down as the running surface was built to run
a certain speed. My outdrive did not have a power trim unit that could
help with this.

I sold that boat 2 years ago and by chance next week I am picking up
my 23 Sportfish (non-flybridge) that as a blown up buick v8 mated to
an old OMC stinger drive (says 225 hp). I am debating whether to
repower with another engine and use my 3 rebuilt OMC drives (least
expensive option) OR remove sterndrive all together and slap on an
outboard bracket and large outboard to it.

Your project sounds cool and I am glad you are happy with the
conversion. I found an older post of yours (and pasted it below) was
there another?

I'd like to see pictures of your boat if you have any I can send you a
few photos of mine as well if you like.

The end of a 2 year project closing...After rebuilding v drive and
gear, and new 318, performance was dismal..Have now rebuilt and
reinforced transom, and volvo 290 DP installed. Last thing is to fix
deck as there was some cutting done to allow engine/drive alignment.
Anyone else attempted this type of project on these classic little
boats. I would like a clue as to which props to purchase...I am
leaning towards b-4, bit it's an expensive guess.. I am thinking the
boat now wieghs in around 4500 lbs. Tks for any input....Wally in BC
