Well I retrieved my 23' Sportfish from Tenakee Springs and towed it
some 66 miles to Juneau yesterday using my family's 31' Express. We
towed 7.5 to 9.5 knots (depending on the tides/current). We had
phenominal flat calm conditions the whole way. So now my 23' is in
the harbor and I plan on borrowing a trailer to put her on while I
repower her. Other than that major issue she is fantastic condition,
it was great to be in the interior and I had forgotten how pristine
she is on the inside (the outside needs a powerwashing). At any rate
I had the towline going through the bow eye and then up over the
anchor roller to the winch capstan and then tied off at the cleat. I
tried all the combinations and that was the best for towing. Going
through the bow eye got the boat the best tow. Other configurations
as the speed increased the bow would rise up but the towline would get
too high and the boat would get squirrelly.
