I have all that you mentioned except the burned out maserator pump. I was about to change the sanitary hoses for the pumpout and I tried to determine what the small line was for, but failed. It has a small thru-deck opening (~1") next to the pumpout thru-deck. I cannot pull anything through it nor can I pour anything down it. I have been meaning to ask the same questions on this forum, but I never got around to it.
My maserator pump empties the holding tank overboard -- it came from the factory that way. My entire holding system is under the water line and as you say, if one leaves the valve open the holding tank will flood and leaks on the top cause a nasty mess. I am considering a sanitary system to treat my waste. I like the type that does its own batching and I can use my existing tank. The overboard pump that comes with the system will go to the current overboard valve via a u-tube which is above the waterline, as many head installations require. So the topic of redesigning the plumbing off the holding tank is now on the top of the Fix-It list.
