Just had a similar experience but the arm went "twang" off the side of the boat in a rainstorm. Got a AFI heavy duty 2 speed wiper at West MArine. Easy install and works great. Also "parks" to the side so you don"t have to try to position it when you turn it off. That and the arm and the blade came to around $300-$350 I recall. Good luck
