Doug,

I have had a Seawise hydraulic system for my 12 foot Achilles dinghy for 5
years and have been very happy. The system is simple and seems bulletproof,
but pricey. I have a 20HP 4 stroke Honda which is absolutely no problem to
lift. I like the dinghy vertical on the transom. I have seen too much
damage from following seas if the dinghy used a system which lifts it
horizontally. The only downsides to the seawise are that the lift and
engine blocks one side exit from the transom and the dinghy is not easily
launched in the event of an emergency. I actually wrote about it's
drawbacks in an emergency in the following article:

Otherwise it is a great system.
