Frank,

Funny (or not) that you should ask. We just brought our Uniflite down to SC
from OH. Enroute, we developed a leak in the same area. Couldn't do much about
it until we arrived here and got settled in. Opened the "door" on the wall at
the end of the couch and found water there. Then, I opened the storage area
under the couch and found more water where it was then running aft and onto the
carpet. I couldn't find where it was coming from and the area was so tight that
had I found it, I doubt I could have done anything about it. I noticed under
the floor beneath the couch a cavity that was fiberglass lined and had a limber
hole in one end. I figured the limber hole had to be there for a reason
(drainage), so I drilled a hole in the floor where the water was coming in
behind the couch from the wall (had to remove the back of the storage area
under the couch.) I then built a "dike" to channel the flow of water to the
hole I had drilled using MarineTex. It's an ugly solution, I know, but after
literally weeks of searching for the leak, it was the only solution I could
come up with. It's quite a slow leak and I'm assuming it eventually finds its
way to the bilge and eventually gets pumped overboard.

A couple weeks later, I found water coming from the closet into the office on
the other end of the room. This I quickly discovered came from the AC drain
pan. The drain hose had become plugged and backed up the drain pan until it
overflowed. I don't think this was related to the aforementioned leak, but who
knows about leaks? I'd suggest you check the drain pan first (easy from the
closet) before drilling holes in the floor.

Since it had been going on for nearly six weeks of our trip, I tore up the
carpet. I have a floor guy coming in to lay teak/holly hardwood floor in the
office and closet. If the drain pan issue turns out to be the source of your
leak, please let me know. I'm a little nervous about laying the hardwood floor
not knowing for sure where the leak is coming from, even though it appears to
be "fixed" with my drain hole and channel in the floor.

Doug, My tank is not near that big. I'm having another problem. I'm getting
water under the carpeting in the office and can't find out where it's coming
from. Any thoughts. frank

The results are in. I measured the tank at 1' x 2' x 5'. Per Bernie's formula,
that comes out to (12 x 24 x 60) /231 = 74.8 or ~ 75 gallons. Talking to the
pumpout people, I discovered my vent pipe is plugged, which accounted for the
overly full holding tank. Hence, they haven't been emptying the tank each week
due to vacuum created during the pumpout process.

I also discovered something else you saltwater-types may be interested in. I
have two heads - stateroom and guest area. We rarely use the guest head unless
we have overnight guests - not all that often. I was just informed that the
guest head should be used every so often, because salt crystals form in the
hose, dry, causing pitting and hence break down of the hose allowing odors to
escape. Then the entire hose needs to be replaced. Just a heads-up for y'all.

Anyone know the blackwater holding tank capacity on a 1984 46' Uniflite? I'm
getting several different numbers from non-Uniflite boaters.

Thanks,
