This leak didn'tseem to be coming from the edges, either. The wet spots were in the middle of the floor. Under the carpet is a foam liner. It was totally soaked and for some reason seemed to wet the carpet more in the middle of the room. We have a cat on board. I even accused the wife that the cat could be the problem. I didn't really think so, but I was running out of ideas. Until I pulled the carpet. Is this in the forward part of the boat or aft cabin. It really doesn't matter though. Something to look for is where the sole (floor) is attached (nailed or screwed) onto the stringers. The stringers are the big fiberglass "beams" that run front to back on the boat under the floors. There are also stringers running side to side. That's where I had water intrusion on my boat. There was a pesky leak in the aft cabin sole on my 42 aft cabin. It was keeping the plywood on the sole soaked and up into a hanging locker, pretty concerning to be sure. I started by putting a dehumidifier in the cabin which worked amazingly well. It completely dried out everything so I could better pin-point the origin of the leak. Long story short there was a screw that penetrated into the foam cored stringer from a trim tabs that were installed improperly. The water was leeching through the foam cored stringer up into where the locker and sole were attached to the stringer with screws. The fix was a little complicated but there's no trace of any moisture for going on five years. Of course that's just one example of how leaks go on a boat. The leak could also be coming from above, I've got stories about that too, but if it's under a rug it could be the water filled stringer scenario. I measured the tank at 1' x 2' x 5'. Per Bernie's formula, that comes out to (12 x 24 x 60) /231 = 74.8 or ~ 75 gallons. Talking to the pumpout people, I discovered my vent pipe is plugged, which accounted for the overly full holding tank. Hence, they haven't been emptying the tank each week due to vacuum created during the pumpout process. I also discovered something else you saltwater-types may be interested in. I have two heads - stateroom and guest area. We rarely use the guest head unless we have overnight guests - not all that often. I was just informed that the guest head should be used every so often, because salt crystals form in the hose, dry, causing pitting and hence break down of the hose allowing odors to escape. Then the entire hose needs to be replaced. Just a heads-up for y'all.
