Kevin! Brilliant summary of my trolling experience, "barging through more or 
less constantly, and, multiple lines out on downriggers, a cluster-f*&k would 
quickly ensue ... ". 

You might be right, about replacement but the gears are the most reliable and 
only thing in the engine compartment that don't leak oil, so it may be a while. 
  I am still curious and might like to try to set one up.  Could you email me 
photos of the troll valve, the gear, and the filter set up when you get time?  
Is there a part number for the troll valve part that's attached to the gear box?
