In response to a question: Can Sunoco be sued by community -- Yes, absolutely.
I did, in fact, file a police report about the crime. FYI, you must call 911, and a police car will show up at your door for taking the complaint (about 45 min. later). The officer took down the info, but said police would do nothing except keep the report on file. She said I could call the 18th district office for a copy of complaint, and use it in a PRIVATE CRIMINAL COMPLAINT or future LAWSUIT. I question this policy. If public or private property is graffitied, and if the police know who did it, aren't these people automatically subject to fines, arrest, etc.? Why is this desecration of public property any different? We know who the culprits are in this case. Why aren't they subject to the laws that you and I are subject to? I suggest we call the 18th district police captain to please explain. Other UPDATES: I did contact the UC Review about the story, and my guess is that it will be front-page with photo (at least that's the hope). I would like to contact local TV news rooms. They would cover it. But, my fear is that they need something interesting to videotape, such as a mass demonstration. Can we organize such an event? Can we get some mass participation on this? Or , do we simply let it slip by. This is up to the community. I'm only one person. And I know we are all busy, and this is just one more piece of crap that we have to deal with. Is there any substantial community interest in enforcing our rights and expressing our outrage on this issue?
