I quote from the "Administrivia and Netiquette" section of the page you would reach
from the links at the bottom of each message:

"The list administrator is Jeff Abrahamson. If you send him mail asking him to
subscribe or unsubscribe you from a list at purple
or bcdv, he will almost certainly delete your mail without replying to it. If you have
genuine trouble with the list, he would expect
you to send him mail documenting your problem, what you did, and why you believe you
have exhausted your recourse dealing
with the automated systems for maintaining your subscription. Many thousands of people
manage to use the automated
subscription maintenance tools, most of them not computer gurus."

Okay,

So John has identified the problem. What is the solution?

My fingers are sweating with anticipation....

My theory:

Andrew signed up using an account name from his domain, using an alias
email, such as [EMAIL PROTECTED], when his actual address is something
else (like [EMAIL PROTECTED] .

So when he tries to unsubscribe, the unsubscribe (majordomo) is reading the
email header, not what you might be telling it in the message body, and the
header doesn't match any address in the list. So he stays subscribed.

I know this because it happened to me (in fact there are some yahoo lists
which I can't seem to get them to remove me from!).

Thanks,
