So ask the following questions and see if you like the answers - then consider whether or not you would like to see
the residential areas of Spruce Hill that are zoned commercial rezoned to residential -- (the crux of Bill 643).
Would you like a group home housing a fraternity/sorority, recovering addicts, juvenile offenders, or parolees to be able to move into the house across the street from you simply by getting a $10 change of use permit?
I believe that this is possible if that house is zoned commercial - (and yes, as Al K. points out - they could tear it down and build a high rise too)
Would you like to know how many properties are already being used in this way in Spruce Hill, Cedar Park, Germantown, other Philly neighborhoods - and per capita in the US?
So would I - and I think Spruce Hill and Germantown are the highest numbers you could find anywhere. So - do we need more?
Do you think this positively or negatively affects quality of life?
Want to know why Jannie Blackwell is selling out Spruce Hill to the rest of the city?
Want to know why the meeting last week was held at the offices of a social servies agency?
Do you think Cedar Park Neighbors and Chestnut Hill residents don't want the group homes and nightclubs there either ?
Why would social services agencies of the city want to add the expense and time delay of a change of zoning to their costs to set up these homes? - Would they like to be accountable to existing residents?
All that would be required in residential zoning - (the crux of Bill 643) and so why wouldn't we want to change the zoning map?
