It would be interesting to note how frequent of an occurrence plant theft is
in the area. I wouldn't let it put a damper on your "greening" spirits
however. Considering the number of plants lost to pests or dogs or cats or
neglect, it can all be seen as part of the experience of urban gardening. In
the suburbs there are natural plant thieves known as deer, but if people
really like making things green, they continue to plant anyway.

If it really was only $15 worth of plants stolen, is it worth spoiling your
effort to green the neighborhood? If someone spray painted graffiti on your
house a few times, would you just leave it there instead of removing it?
Letting them get you down because they stole a few plants is letting them
win. Please keep up your good efforts. Experiment with different plants and
locations that might be less theft-prone.

Subject: [UC] Stolen plants, again

I just wanted to put it out there that for the second
straight year, we have had plants stolen from our
front yard on the 4600 block of Larchwood. I mention
this only because it is such a small theft that it may
be going on throughout the neighborhood and nobody
bothers to bring it up and thus there is no action.
After all, $15 is hardly worth notifying the police
over.

Last year, our house along with two of our neighbors
had plants dug out from our yards. Thinking that was
an isolated incident, we hung two Colius planters on
the porch. One disappeared early last week.

If this has happened to others over the last two
years, please respond to me personally instead of
clogging the list serve. I will accumulate the
responses and report back to the listserve and/or the
police and Neighborhood Watch.

I certainly would hate for this type of behavior to
stop the beautification of our neighborhood. I know
it will be adversely affecting our future plantings.
