I don't recall that anyone observed any police helicopters.  All the 
reports were that they were TV helicopters, and they were up for long after 
the suspects were nabbed.

I'm not so convinced about police helicopters. (That is, I'm not sure

we'd all agree.) Do they really catch people better by helicopter than

by having beat cops walking the streets, etc? Would that kid have been

kidnapped at all, for example, if there'd been a cop walking nearby,

or likely to have been?


U.S. law enforcement often makes the argument that they just need more

fire power to keep us safe. I don't hear them justify that

assertion.
