To echo Naomi's reply, these Hazardous Waste days handle quite a variety of
materials. Or, to re-package an old ad campaign, "It ain't just paint!"
By the way - in many cases, Latex or water-based paint can be disposed of in
regular trash. Following is a quote from the Streets Dept.'s web site:
"Latex or water base paints are not hazardous.
If a resident has latex or water base paint cans that are 1/4 to 1/3 full an
absorbent material such as "kitty litter" can be used to solidify the paint
prior to disposal.
If a resident has cans of paint that have solidified, they can be mixed in
with their regular trash.
If a resident has empty paint and aerosol cans, they can be put out at the
curbside with their recyclables. "
And while I'm at it: there are a number of locations where one can pick up
the large, blue recycling containers. Details are also at the Streets Dept
web site:
http://www.phila.gov/streets/hhw_events.html and select the link to
Get a Recycling Container.
These sites do sometimes run out of containers, so be prepared to have to
come back. Also, they all have different hours - see the web site for
details. (The City web site will also be unavailable for a few hours today
starting 10 am, per an announcement on that site).
