I got doored a little over a year ago, and I was hit,

court, there was no way to prove it because it was all
he said she said. But I got their insurance
information to make them pay for the damage to my
bike, but it turned out to be false, and they also
gave a false phone number. It was, and still is,
really really infuriating.

On the plus side, drive sports trued my wheel for free
(the only damage), and I totally bent the HELL out of
their door. Seriously damaged it. Like at least
$1000 worth of work. He he.

So no, I don't think that the cops do that, unless
they happen to witness it.

Does anyone know otherwise?

last summer, as I was riding my bike to pick up my weekly share of farm-to-city veggies at that <cough cough> mennonite place up there on baltimore ave, I was doored for the first time in my life. by a parked car. the impact threw me out of the bike lane and there I was, flat in the middle of the street, still gripping the handlebars and with my bike still clenched between my legs. for like a full stunned minute the car person and I just kind of looked at each other, and I remember thinking how weird it was that my wheels were still spinning. YOU OK he says. yeah, I say. I FEEL TERRIBLE he says. don't worry about it, I say. YOU OK he says again, and I'm like yeah I'm ok dammit.

after that I tried convincing everyone I knew that it would be safer for bicyclists to ride on the other side of the street, facing traffic. you wouldn't get doored, I told them. you wouldn't get sideswiped. they all laughed at me.

now I have this cool looking scar on my upper right bicep. the chicks all dig it, and it predicts the rain.
