Ok, either we've become so close on this listserv that nothing is kept in

seriously....is there a seriously?
The word "blog" is derived from "weblog," a term that as of now has yet to make it into any printed dictionary, having been coined only within the last year or two.
Weblogs are online journals made possible by software that lets people post what might have been called "diaries" in the dead-trees era on the Web, where anyone can see them. They have become popular forms of self-publishing, as the software is simple to use and many free versions exist. A person who keeps a weblog is called a "blogger", which is also the name of one of the most popular free weblog programs, and the activity they engage in is called "blogging".
What's more, strip the "b" from these terms and you're back to dead trees, only before they become paper.
