Ok, so the Philadelphia Film Office assembled their staff and a few representatives from Hack at the Woodland Presbyterian Church last night....for what again?
Well..for those of you who had been "hacked-out" or just couldn't make it last night, you didn't miss a thing. On the positive side, it was the kind of event that should have happened BEFORE the film shooting started in the community. There are some improvements that have come from all the "noise" such as a central parking lot for towed cars on 47th Street. No mention of validations at local lots or windshield signs for those who would like to self park there. They are now putting flyers in doors with earlier notice, although they have missed a number of doors, mine included. Many things I found peculiar last night. I was originally told in writing that there were no fees paid for permits, now, I was told last night from the Film Office, that there are no PERMITS required. How can they shoot a film and tow cars without City permits? I guess they can always say it never happened. It was a purposely, poorly organized meeting. I didn't see any announcements other than the e-mail I sent to the listservs. There were HACK flyers that went through the doors to announce the filming schedule with no mention of the upcoming Film Office event. When I asked about the lack of advertising, they blamed each other. Folks were asking me did I or the S.H.N.A organize the meeting, and the answer is NO! I was asked to mention it to my neighbors and was told that everyone was invited. The invited Spruce Hill Community "Society" boycotted the event, not sending a single representative from the executive committee. What happened with you people.. Nancy or Jon? Not even a UCD Ambassador, and there was free food! The Film Office and Hack never formally introduced themselves or made a presentation, instead, they informally greeted everyone by walking around the room chatting, leaving it to neighbors to guess who they were, they were not even wearing name tags. No substantive answers were given to any questions asked. The most popular answer to your question was "why don't you try some of that lovely cheese". Oh...yes...they did buy cheese and crackers from the Marigold, FYI, for local economic impact. There were no representatives from Jannie's Office, no one representing the Philadelphia Police Community Relations, and no Actors!..darn it!. Again, a BIG waste of time. The message was loud and clear for everyone who attended, complained or didn't.... "shut up and eat your HACK!".
