Ok, so the Philadelphia Film Office assembled

last night....for what again?

I'm not in agreement with all of Sharrieff's comments. But here are my impressions.

1. This was the sort of thing that should have occurred before production moved into our area. It would have given the Film Office a chance to explain some of the issues we'd be facing, and some that they have to face. (For example: A movie production has months to assemble its location schedule: a TV series may change its scripts from week to week, and the locations may not be chosen until a day or so before shooting.) I don't think this meeting was much more than a try at making nice and friendly, especially since it's happening after the fact. But I'm not as worked up about it as some.

2. The SHCA's behavior during this whole thing has been genuinely odd. They meet with the production people over a local issue... and then don't discuss it with anyone. When questioned about this meeting, they are evasive and suspicious. They manage to extract a donation and a tree, something which could have been presented as a really positive accomplishment... and they do _not_ make this public until after weeks of speculation and argument on this mailing list. Instead, they hastily assemble a public meeting, where people from the film Office and _Hack_ can catch all the complaints for them. And when a follow-up, meet-and-greet meeting is announced by someone who isn't part of their core group, they are conspicuous by their absence. One senses a distinct bunker mentality among the SHCA's main people.
