i tried the vietnamese restaurant on 43rd and Pine this past weekend. having just returned from a summer in southeast asia, i can say that the food is authentic. we tried the chicken curry (dark meat with skin on, for those of you who are curious) with vermicelli, which was like a huge soup. we also tried the shrimp rolls, which are fresh, not fried (quite good), and the broken rice with chicken. overall, the food is standard vietnamese fare with no bells or whistles. it's definitely less interesting, fresh-tasting, and gourmet/adventurous with ingredients than vientiane, wich is one of my all-time favorites for west philly :)
i would recommend going to the vietnamese place if you want to see what food in vietnam is like. if you're looking for "fusion" or an americanized interpretation, it's not your best bet. on a different note, the vietnamese place makes many kinds of fresh tropical fruit shakes; i didn't have a chance to try any, but they're probably good. best, sarah ---- You are receiving this because you are subscribed to the list named "UnivCity."
