How many such salons are there on the Baltimore strip anyway? Understandably they would be of no use to dead bald white Europeans.
ross, this question has been asked on this list before, back in june 2002, when neil asked how many do we really need and brian answered as many as the market will allow and I pointed out that baltimore ave had about the same number per block as did the ucd's revitalized 40th street. and now it's october 2003 and the ucd's projects on baltimore avenue and lancaster avenue are underway and neil and anthony are talking about "endlessly redundant braid shops and nail salons" and "our many phone card stores, our many hairbraiding salons" on baltimore avenue. btw, I am not bald. you?

Offhand, I'd say "as many as the market will allow." If they stay in business, then clearly, people need them.

3 nail salons 3 hair salons (plus 2 hair braiding shops) 3 phone/pager stores
then I took a walk along 40th street from market to spruce (3 blocks) and got this count:
1 nail salon 1 hair salon 1 phone/pager store
it seems, roughly speaking, that the 40th street corridor, which ucd has worked so hard to revitalize, has a similar proportion of nail salons, hair salons, and phone/pager stores per block as does baltimore ave, which neil says do not fulfill people's basic shopping needs. are neil and ucd at cross purposes here?
