Bill, I think you may be correct in this opinion in the overall sense, but I
think that "city-folks" -- at least in UC-- want to do more of their
shopping nearby (if it's available, and reasonably-priced).

The hardware stores, for example, face lots of competition from Home Depot.
But there still is a need for local hardware stores, since you can't justify
a trip to HD for every little item, plus the fact that HD simply does not
carry every item that we will need. (They don't carry glass, for example.)
Balt. Ave could definitely use a good hardware store. Jackson's always
seemed to be operated more as a hobby to me, and now we've been told it's
for sale.

That newly-renovated Asian grocery store (Fu- Wah?) off Balt Ave. is a great
little mom/pop store, and should do well. That other newly-renovated Asian
store on the 4800 blck (?) of Spruce St. is also a nice store with standard
and unusual items.

I think there is definitely a market for goods and services that is not
being met by the existing shops in UC, forcing us to go, by car, to the "big
boxes" and malls (but, not by choice).
