Dear Neighbors,

Last evening about 7:15 I was driving down Belmont
Av. from City Line towards Parkside Ave.

I was nearly at Parkside Ave. (one light away) when a large buck deer
crossed the street coming from Parkside Ave. Not ran across or leaped or
scampered across mind you, but STROLLED a VERY leisurely stroll across four
lanes of traffic!

His dorsal area reached well above the hood of my car and about halfway up
my windshield. He had three prongs on each of his antlers. He also had the
effrontery to look over his shoulder at me and the driver in the left lane
next to me with an expression that suggested, "What are YOU guys lookin'
at?"

The driver next to me and I looked at one another as if to say, "What on
earth?" Just what we need; deer strolling the streets with attitude!

What saved me is that the road surface was stripped starting right before
Montgomery Dr. all the way down past Parkside. I slowed down to avoid the
nicks and raised manhole covers in the street. I confess I usually drive
faster and try to go from Montgomery down to Parkside without stopping at a
light.

I urge you to please be careful when driving not just in the park areas, but
on the areas leading into and around the park. A collision with deer can be
fatal.

The rut has begun and won't end until January I believe and apparently only
ONE thing is one the mind of deer and they are closer than we think.

Sincerely,

Wilma de Soto
