We have traced our Kauffman family's first immigrant back to the late 1700's here in Philly. I'd love to find documentation such as passenger lists, etc., but have no idea where to begin. We have the person's name and the year of arrival, but no ship name.
I'd be grateful for any suggestions! Thanks

This is a big can of worms...
The National Archives (8th and Chestnut) runs a series of seminars on Tuesdays once a month.
Some of the lists are there, some are at the Balch (7th south of Market) , some at Temple.
The Pennsylvania Genealogical Society archives are at the Pennsylvania Historical Society. I believe they also still run monthly meetings.
