Increasingly, the hip post-college set in University City bops around Northern Liberties as well. It is very boppable now. Ortlieb's Jazz Haus and the Fire may have live acts even on a dead Monday night. There are a dozen sophisticated but affordable eating and drinking spots on the easy walking circuit of 2nd-to-Spring Garden-to-3rd-to-Poplar. The window-shopping is cool. Parking is a breeze and the area is an easy walk from the Spring Garden el station. The natives tend to be commercially successful working-artist types; their 'hood is still small and intimate, with a cozy sociable feel. Whatever else you tell your Young Visiting Smarty, steer them away from South Street! Casual tourists are apt to be informed of its existence, as it lurks like a Venus flytrap to suck in the unwary. But any 20-something with a trace of suavity will never buy a ticket to Philly again if they think *that's* the best this town has to offer. -- Tony West ---- You are receiving this because you are subscribed to the list named "UnivCity."
