Title: Re: [UC] Interested in Pastured/Humanely raised meats and poultry?
I apologize if my last message came off harshly. Having worked for 7 years now at the White Dog where we only serve humane meats, I've heard this argument a lot. Yes, in one way I can see how "humanely killed" animals can come off as a contradiction. I'll spare the list the gory details in the different slaughtering techniques but there are a more "humane" ways to kill an animal.

But my main point is, until the majority of Americans radically change their eating habits, humane meats are the best option I have found - for the health and humanity of the animal, for the land on which they are raised and for the health of those that eat the meat from the animals.

And to answer your question, I do eat meat. I was a vegetarian for 10 years before I came to the White Dog. Now I eat humane meat sometimes but still mostly eat vegetarian-style. I don't condemn those that eat meat. But I do hope that it is done in a conscience manor. Every life should be respected.

Just seems odd that for many people who think of these animals as food,
like me, that the "humane" aspect only comes into the picture  when they
are thinking about how they are raised.  I still say it seems that people
who are very concerned about the "humane" treatment of animals used for
food, would also see EATING them as inhumane, as well.  It's inhumane the
way they are raised, but not inhumane to eat them? Duh?  You said we don't
need to eat them - don't those people think eating them is "inhumane" as
well? That's the point I was making.  The phrase "eating Pastured/humanely
raised meats and poultry" seems a conundrum to me.

But you are right - I admit we do bear some responsibility to see that
unecessary torture during their lives is stopped.  But as long as I think
killing and eating them is perfectly ok, which I do, I don't get on any
soap box about it.  When I am willing to get on that soapbox, that'll be
the day I will see eating them as inhumane, as well, and become a
vegetarian, like I have assumed you are.
