Many of you have probably heard that John Kerry will be in Philadelphia this Friday, April 16.  The first event is the new event--- John Kerry will arrive at the Philadelphia Convention Center sometime after 5pm on Friday.  There will be a free rally, but you will need a ticket to get in the door.  The Kerry campaign is hoping for a large crowd for the rally, but security requirements are responsible for a "no-sign policy" and all admissions strictly dependent on passage through a metal detector (which suggests a strong possibility of serious lines).  Doors are scheduled to open at 5pm.  Tickets are free, but no tickets will be available at the door at the time of the event--- and can be picked up by today (Wednesday), tomorrow (Thursday) or Friday morning (before noon) at the following Philadelphia locations:
  • Ticket Distribution Location, 123 South Broad, Suite 1827 (215-545-4553)
  • Philadelphia Democratic City Committee, 1421 Walnut Street  (215-241-7800)
  • An as yet unspecified location at Temple
  • An as yet unspecified location at Penn
Call either of the first 2 locations if you have any questions or need any additional information (like, for example, the location of ticket pickup points at Temple or in West Philadelphia).
*
After the reception, you can always go to one of the previously announced events (but brace yourself--- you will have to pass a different metal detector to get to the later events, so if you go to multiple events, you'll be passing through detection lines twice!
  • Friday, April 16, 5:30pm- Teresa Heinz Kerry and Ed Rendell are holding a $1000/head reception for John Kerry at the Pennsylvania Convention Center (12th & Arch Streets, Room 204).  If you're in this ballpark, call Michelle Singer at 215-545-4553 (and mention "SE PA Meetup" as a source of referral--- NO, I'm not getting any credit as a fund raiser, but sort of like the Clark "44-cent"?  contribution strategy, this shows the campaign that we are producing something and might have more central support directed toward our operations).  If this reminded you that you wanted to buy a ticket as part of a group of contributors, only one of whom will be attending, please contact either Kelly Moore  ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) or me ([EMAIL PROTECTED]).
  • Friday, April 16, 7:45pm.  Ed Rendell and Philadelphia's "young professionals" will be welcoming John Kerry at the Philadelphia Convention Center (12th & Arch Streets).  I suspect this will be a very large event, but it's closer to my current budget ($100.head) so I'll probably attend (hope there is no age check at the door for 'young').  If you decide to go, as noted above, mention that you are part of this group in your referral ("SE PA MEETUP") when you go to https://contribute.johnkerry.com/rsvp/?event=0090.
Hope to see you there!  The rally in particular will be a press event, so a lot of people projects a sense of a lot of support.  And don't be dissuaded by those probable lines--- I strongly suspect that the crowds lining up to see John Kerry in the general election period will make a good turnout now look small by comparison.
