I'd decided I was going to stain all my woodwork about 2 years ago, I took down two doors (figuring to maximize my time) put paint stripper on them, started that awful process, then sanded them with a belt sander for five days trying to get the little bits of paint off, figured that one piece of moulding could easily take the rest of my life and just re-hung the doors.

I've started stripping a trio of chestnut doors I found in my basement, and it's rough going. Chestnut isn't an easy wood to work with: it's brittle when it gets old, and it has a pronounced grain. God help me when I start working on the wood trim in my house. (I did get some good advice from Michael Dresdner, who's written the best ref books on finishing wood.) What are their rates for loose boards? Marielena Mata wrote: > Dear Friends and Neighbors, > > Last fall we asked for recommendations for services to strip doors by > a dipping method.
