Today, at 10 a.m., City Council was supposed to continue with tax reform
hearings. My son Scott was interested, and I wanted to go with him, thinking I
hadn't done enough recently for this issue, which is important to me. At 9:45,
I called Councilman Kenney's office to confirm that the hearing was going to
take place - yes, they said, at 10:00, in Council chambers.

When we arrived, we were told that the hearing had now been rescheduled for
noon! With a bit of grumbling, we got back on the trolley and came to my
office in Powelton to do a little work. At 11:45, we got back on the trolley and
arrived at City Hall again at noon - only to find that the hearings had now
been changed to 2 p.m. This time, we ran into a woman I know, who was going to
be attending on behalf of the company for which she works, so she gave me her
cell phone number so I could check in with her about the 2 p.m. time rather
than taking the trolley again without confirmation.

Talking with her later, I was kept up to date as the hearing was rescheduled
from 2 to 3, then from 3 to 4, then from 4 to "maybe 5." At that point, she
was leaving also, and we never went back.

This hearing, IF it was held at all, was rescheduled FIVE TIMES today. It's
outrageous that City Council has so little respect for the time of those who
are to testify and those who want to show their support. The rescheduling
certainly seems to have been designed to make sure that everyone gave up and went
away.

We need tax reform now! Why won't they hear us?
