i always check the notices we get in the mail. because my husband is a contractor, he
gets a lot of tickets. about 2/3 of the time i get an overdue notice for a ticket we
paid. i have to send a ltr and a copy of the canceled check. both a waste of taxpayer
dollars and my time, or time that could be spent contributing more usefully to the
city's and region's economy. this is yet another reason it is hard to get good people
to own small businesses in the city.

Subject: [UC] RE: parking authority gone CRAZY??

To the list:

WATCH OUT FOR CRAZY PARKING AUTHORITY MESSAGES! I may not be the only
local who gets slapped with big fines for a violation I never committed.

I just got a prize winner. Supposedly, I owe Philadelphia big bucks for

a) Parking overtime in my own neighborhood EVEN THOUGH I HAVE ALWAYS HAD
A VALID #2 STICKER PROVING I AM A RESIDENT DISPLAYED IN MY BACK WINDOW,

AND -- get this!-- b) Because they are penalizing me for not paying the
parking fine EVEN THOUGH I NEVER GOT THE ORIGINAL TICKET,

AND -- even crazier -- c) Because I did not resolve this "in a timely
manner," this ticket being dated to 3/6/01!!!!! Yes, the ticket supposedly
goes back to March 2001, but now THEIR concern is
MY failure to respond "in a timely manner" when THEY have let this "violation"
(in reality a mistake on their part) go for OVER THREE YEARS!!

Thought I'd warn the list; presumably other similarly crazy messages will
be forthcoming from the Parking Authority and other members will be warned
that big fines are owing
for what are in reality NON VIOLATIONS, perhaps ones as old as this one.

Obviously, I am going to contest the fine. If others receive analogous
demands for parking ticket fines, perhaps we can join forces?

Or, does anyone know a sane person in the Parking Authority who can acknowledge
that, as a person with a valid #2 sticker, I could never have been parking
overtime in my own neighborhood in the first place?

For THIS kind of time wasting exercise we pay taxes to the City of
Philadelphia? AAAGH!
