When a Republican mayor does it in a Democratic city "its the denial of free speech"? I do not think so. If the Democratic city government thought it was such a great idea, NYC’s council would have enacted legislation to allow the use, thereby ignoring the arbitrary and capricious whims of a repressive and suppressive Republican mayor.

Interestingly, it was on one the news programs today (the one that follows Sunday Morning) that during the commentary at the end, the newscaster mentioned the fact that NYC had just spent $18 million to re-sod the Central Park Lawn, and THAT was the reason that the Mayor and NYC's City Council are opposed to permits to use the lawn. And he was the ONLY newscaster -- including those on Fox -- apparently to have ferreted out this fact and reported on it. Interesting.

Now of course if George Soros would simply pay to have the lawn re-sodded again after the event, then everyone on the un-coordinated sided of the Kerry Campaign could just move on. But then George isn't known to be committed to Free Speech, he's committed to lining his pockets and getting what he wants no matter how many economies he destroys in the process.
