I recently had my invasive Norway Maple cut down from my back yard. I plan
to replace it with a less foliaged, less seedy, less shedding tree in the
spring (maybe a pear?). Now, I have plenty of wood on the side of my house
for my fireplace. It's a shame that my fireplace isn't working yet.

If you held on to that wood, by the time your fireplace was fixed, it
would be ready to burn. (Assuming that it took a year or two to get
your fireplace working.)
