This morning, I placed our recycling out for pickup. I specifically set all the recycling (mixed paper, cans, glass & newsprint) about ten feet from the trash.
To make sure that the mixed paper wasn't confused with trash, I put all the newspapers on top of the bundle of mixed paper. The trashmen took the mixed paper and tossed it in the trash. I was walking out as they removed the newspaper, trashed the paper and put the newspaper back.
I said to them, "Excuse me, isn't mixed paper recycled?" They responded, "Yeah, but that looked like trash."
Grrrr. The mixed paper is the hardest stuff to cull and store. Grrrr.
I find the easiest thing to do is to put all "paper" for recycling in brown paper bags and set them to the side along with the "blue buckets," making it clear that there are "two" piles.
Alternately, if you can get one!!!, put all the mixed paper in one of the large rectangular recycle bins.
For what it's worth ... we have the advantage that the recycle truck usually appears several hours before the trash truck.
