Dear list,
A few neighbors had a productive conversation with an
FOCP Board member at the farmer's market. I'd like to
think there is hope.
I asked Frank Chance to pass on the following requests.
(Mr Chance is the new chairman of an FOCP committee we,
the general members, created in 2003 that is called by
FOCP, the outreach committee.)
First we asked Mr. Chance to pass on the request to FOCP
not to submit the redesign plans to any entity until the
plan is publicly available to the community and a process
and time period is publicly announced for the community
to give feedback. As we all agreed, no one wants to
destroy the hard work of FOCP volunteers. However, it is
unacceptable to allow the FOCP to proceed in the manner
it is pursuing. A good plan can be offered to the
community and receive support.
I also offered to assist Mr. Chance with the work of
outreach to park groups and asked that the plan also be
delayed to allow this to be done so that park users have
an opportunity to participate in future planning and
provide feedback. These are not unreasonable requests nor
would they cause an unreasonable delay. If you know Mr.
Chance, please encourage him to support these requests to
the FOCP board. I know that there are currently several
reasonable people associated with the FOCP and I truly
hope there is a chance to reform the defective processes
that have been part of the group for years.
The FOCP could have pursued the plan to redesign the park
transparently and properly but it did not. There is no
crisis that justifies denying these reasonable requests.
There is no reason that we can't now do this correctly if
the plan is good. Of course, we don't know much about the
plan except a lot of misinformation and secrecy.
Please come to the unannounced meeting of FOCP and ask
the leaders to do the right thing for our much loved
park, our culture, and our community. MEETING January
17th, 7:30 PM, 43rd and Kingssessing, USIP Griffith Hall
NO FEE REQUIRED! Come and speak up for an acceptable
public process and public accountability.
Sincerely,
Glenn Moyer
thanks, glenn.
meanwhile, sounds like there's still time for an
announcement of the meeting in uc review:
[from uc review's almanak page]:
"If you miss the Monday Noon Editorial Deadline for
Almanac listings, please enter your event yourself,
day or night, on our online calendars at www.ucreview.com
and www.wwwklypress.com!"
it's too bad the uc review has failed twice now to print a
simple announcement of focp meetings, especially when focp
has specifically mandated this, and must have sent these
announcements to the uc review in a timely manner, and uc
review has meanwhile printed articles and letters about
these meetings, and has been listing other focp events in
their almanak.
