Since my son went off to college, I don't hear the show anymore, but I did
listen last night since it was in Philly.

The oddest thing I noticed was that there was absolutely no mention of
gospel, jazz, soul food etc. It was all about the "south side." You would
have thought from listening that there were no black people in Philly. The
local talent was some guy from the south side named Amos Lee whom I had
never heard of, and Terry Gross whom he abused tragically by putting her in
really stupid skits.

Two specific things that pissed me off:

1) the reference librarian sketch about a clueless old lady who has never
heard of the internet. My own mother was a reference librarian and when she
died in 1997 she knew more about the internet than most people on this list.

2) the effeminate hairdresser. Unbelievable obnoxious stereotyping --
couldn't believe this was on the radio in Philly.

Truly insipid stuff, and an insult to the Kimmel Center. The only good part
was the authentic old time bluegrass/country group. Garrison Keillor ought
to take his Lutheran ass back to Minnesota where he belongs and stick his
head in an icy fjord.

How specifically? I listened to significant portions of the show on
Saturday and Sunday (I've been painting a room most of the weekend). I did
not hear a specific Philly diss. Maybe I missed the diss (however, I did
notice a skit featured the typical librarian stereotype).

I should add this is the first time I've ever listened to PHC; not sure
how I've missed it with all the times I listen to NPR while working on the
house. I don't think it was entirely to my liking.

Did anyone else hear Garrison Keillor on A Prairie Home Companion badmouth
Philly while he was at the Kimmel Center?
