Dear Karen,
...
I'm sorry you don't agree with me, Karen, and I do not want to get violent
with you (considering the tone of your voice implies that you do).

I'm sorry you don't agree with me, Karen, and I do not want to get violent
with you (considering the tone of your voice implies that you do). Hope we
can all still get along,
Dan Myers
Dan,
I am very quick to come down on those who make ad hominem attacks when they
are confronted with an idea that they cannot otherwise intellegently debate,
so I am especially careful to not make anything personal when I write. You
will notice that nothing I said in my earlier post was directed to you
personally. I quoted your post, but I did not address my response
specifically to you. I did not address you by name, as you have me. I used
the third person, and I spoke to the idea presented, not to the person
making it. I deleted your e-mail address in my original response, and in
this response, so that my response would go only to the listsserv.
In light of the fact that my response was directed only at the ideas you
expressed, and after re-reading what I wrote, I am hard pressed to see how
what I wrote warrants your accusation that I "want to get violent with you".
You are the person introducing that idea to this discussion. Apart from
reading your posts, I have met you only once, and I can assure you that I
have no desire to get "violent" with you or anyone else.
I'm sorry that you didn't like what I said. Writing in an open forum always
runs a risk of getting a response that isn't liked. But dislike on the part
of the reader is not the same as aggression on the part of the writer.
Karen Allen
