Hi hope,
Just as the Bush Administration is delaying its decision about
whether to list Polar Bears as an Endangered Species, they have
planned a sale of oil and gas leases in prime polar bear habitat
for tomorrow.
We should NOT open Polar Bear Habitat to drilling. Tell Interior
Secretary Dirk Kempthorne that this plan is in bad taste!
There are so many things wrong with this proposal. Polar bear
mothers may abandon their young or flee to dangerous, unknown
territory when they are frightened by the sound of oil drills. Not
to mention the potential of an oil spill or pollution in general.
This also comes at a time when we need to be thinking seriously
about our energy habits and finding alternatives to oil. The
European Union has a proposal for lowering emissions that puts the
U.S. to shame. Feeding our current gluttonous energy habits is not
the direction we should go, especially when we risk losing these
beautiful animals.
Add your voice to this important issue today. Tell Interior
Secretary Kempthorne that oil drilling in polar bear habitat is a
terrible idea.
