Hi As someone who lives next door to an aspiring (but not very talented) rock drummer - when he gets started it sounds like he's in my apt. and has the pleasure of listening to the band that's somewhere on Locust between 45th and 46yh that will play till all hours of the night (again, not the most talented group but they sure are LOUD), I'd LOVE it if there was a place for people to practice.
Logistics of rrehearsal/studio space: Location Price Security: rent the space and be able to leave the equipment there - moving a guitar or small amp may not be a problem, but if someone's got one of those huge amps, a full drum kit, speakers, and all the rest of the equipment bands need, that would get real tired real fast. And in general it's not going to be feasible for alot of people to be having to shlep that stuff back and forth - and it's extra wear and tear on it. The only other suggestion I have, since your neighbors are trying to be considerate (being in the basement) is talk to them about their timing with practicing, see if they can't start earlier or knock off earlier. Also suggest to them that they look into acoustic sound dampening for the basement. Don't know if that'd be affordable for them and it won't kill all sound/vibration, but it might help. Good luck!
