I agree, Frank. If only people with children have a say in how the schools are
run, then only people with children should pay for them. Since I don't have any
children of my own, I don't think that I, or retirees, or any other childless
people should be taxed to educate other people's children.
Please don't write to me telling me I'm an asshole or whatever. I don't really
mean that. Obviously, that is a short-sighted, ignorant position.
Public schools are for the benefit of the public, and all members of the public
should pay for them. But apparantly the only role childless people are supposed
to have in the school system is that of footing the bill. Everyone has the
legal responsibility of paying the freight for the educational system, and by
virtue of that fact, everyone has the right to have input as to how that system
is administered. If anyone can be excluded from that because s)he doesn't
have children, then s)he should be exempted from having to pay for it.
