To everyone who feels strongly about trash tickets:
The Streets Department goes hat-in-hand to a city council budget hearing on
Monday, April 27, from 2:00 to 3:30pm.
The public can sign up to testify at these hearings. It might be interesting
for someone to ask:
1. How much money does the city gross and net from these tickets?
2. Where does the money go (does the Streets Dept get it, does it go
into the general fund, does it just disappear)?
3. What evidence is there that this program has fulfilled its purported
purpose of cleaner streets?
I don't like paying the fines for highly dubious supposed violations. But I
don't feel strongly enough to devote the time to prepare for and present
testimony. Maybe someone else does.
