My phone was out that Tuesday morning (6/9) till that Friday (DSL was out Tuesday evening till Thursday). Since then, when I pick up the phone, I usually get buzzing, but if I click the call button, the dial tone comes on. I haven't bothered calling Verizon about it. It hasn't been a real problem for me. My DSL has been very good since it's been restored.

Yes, this is a problem in Verizon's Central Office. The same thing happened to me last week during the storm, no service from Tuesday to Thursday. Then Friday my phone went dead again and I haven't had service since then. Verizon says they will fix the problem by Wednesday. They are saving money by not having sufficient technical personnel to handle problems. It is absurd to be without phone service for five days on account of a problem at the Central Office, which should be dealt with in a high priority manner, as it affects the entire area. Verizon is supposed to give you a refund for lack of service whenever there is an outage that lasts more than 24 hours, so make sure you get all the refunds to which you are entitled. Also, they shouldn't have made any 'repairs' in your home wiring, since they knew that the problem was in the Central Office -- you should refuse to pay for that unnecessary service call.

You have voicemail so you can still get your messages, but those who don't have voicemail can request a temporary voice mailbox free of charge, to be used until the problem is fixed. Repair service can handle that directly.

You can also call the PUC to complain about inadequate service. The PUC will suggest that you first talk to Verizon, before you file a formal complaint; this is good because the PUC will connect you directly to Verizon Customer Relations, who in turn will know that you had contacted the PUC and will attempt to get things moving for you. When talking to Customer Relations, the best way to get their attention is to mention Comcast. Also, they will make a note on your records that you had contacted the PUC -- the next time you call they will take that into account and they will try to provide slightly better service.

Good luck,

Hi Everyone:

I live in the 4700 block of Warrington Ave and on Tues. June 8th we had a bad thunderstorm which put our phone line out of service until Thursday 6/11.

Ever since the restoration I have had this nagging problem of intermittent problem with the dial tone. If someone calls me during one of these interruptions they get a busy message and go to my voice mail, the phone never rings. At various times I will pick up any phone in the house and it will be dead, if I click the call button the dial tone comes back.

Verizon has sent a tech out 2 days last week and he rewired and replaced the phone jacks in my house, he also tested all of the equipment and said everything was fine and it was for a short time. The problem has since returned.

Today while in FuWah I was talking to Dave, the owner and he said he is having the same problem and Verizon has been out for him to no avail. This morning I went to the box in the breezeway that is for homeowners to test the line and plugged in a desk phone. At first there was a dial tone but I left this phone plugged in for several hours and the problem started on this phone which tells me the problem is outside of my house.

My question is, has anyone else in the neighborhood had a similar problem recently

Thanks
