Well, yes, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" is a hackneyed
cliche that reminds you of "Ma Perkins" (or am I the only person left in
this neighborhood old enough to remember Oxydol's Own Ma Perkins?).

But now's the time to nip the city's stealth $500 trash fee in the bud.

After the mayor promised that "trash fees are off the table," the city has
enacted an ordinance to assess small buildings with commercial zoning $500
per year for trash pick-up. If you rent an apartment or house, or own a
100% residential rental property, and this doesn't apply to you, then
dollars-to-doughnuts you'll be in for a rude awakening when the precedent is
set
and they come after every rental property. And, if you think the owner will
have to pay, so what difference does it make, you're overlooking the
reality that the cost will be passed on through higher renta.

So, if you haven't done so already, register your objections now. There's
an easy and efficient way of getting an e-mail message to everybody in City
Council plus the Mayor and the head of the new "Office of Business
Services" (which is supposed to help us rather than stand by and watch the
city
hurt us).

Just go to _www.icodat.com/notrashfee_ (http://www.icodat.com/notrashfee) ,
fill in the blanks on the form, use the preloaded "message" (you can also
modify it or delete it and write your own), and click on the "submit"
button at the bottom of the page.

The "word" in City Hall is that the pols have to hear from the solid
citizens of this great city of ours before they put a hold on an ill-advised
ordinance and give it the attention and the "hearing" a charge like this
deserves.
