Dear neighbors, It has been uncovered that FOCP/UCD plan to close Park A for an indefinite period of time. Were people in the community aware that the so called improvements were going to require this closing?????
Seven years ago, UCD and FOCP pushed a plan for a complete redesign of Clark Park. They attacked the culture of park users with a propaganda campaign repeatedly calling us dangerous criminals, (“prostitutes, gang members and drug addicts”). Park stakeholders were banned from the “master plan steering committee!” The community loudly and almost unanimously rejected the plan to recreate both park and culture in 2003. We were told that the plan was “dead” for lack of money. When parts of the plan were to be implemented in the future; we were promised an open, inclusive, transparent process! That was immediately shown to be a lie. Seven years have passed. FOCP and UCD tightened their control of information as they used time to conquer the community’s rejection. Park stakeholders and the community are still banned from the secret FOCP and UCD planning committees. FOCP leaders falsely claim that the community approved the UCD complete redesign plan, back in 2002-03. In 2006, FOCP leaders falsely claimed that “17 public meetings” had approved the UCD plan. They have shown repeatedly, at their dog and pony shows, that they won’t allow a public statement against their secret backroom agreements. (Glenn Moyer was silenced 3 consecutive times in recent years at presentations, and not permitted the one minute to record a comment against the exclusive anti-democratic process.) What we know: FOCP announced its annual tightly controlled presentation to demand money tonight. It is the only meeting ever announced in the local paper. (FOCP leaders claim they can’t figure out how to get an announcement of their meetings published.) In last week’s UC Review, they falsely announced a plan to look at flea markets in the park. In fact, it was uncovered that their plan, against the People’s flea market, is already set! When chemicals were recently dumped on Clark Park, the UCD and FOCP engaged in a cover-up claiming that nothing but a “dry fertilizer” was ever used on the park. UCD contracts with a landscape company called Moon, which subcontracts with an infamous third party called Trugreen. Neighbors have seen the spraying over the years, and know that this is a lie and cover-up! It’s clear that these self proclaimed UCD/FOCP experts don’t know what’s been done to Clark Park, as they tell the community to shut up and give them more money. What they’ve shown with the history of chemical use is an immediate cover-up response with the usual personal attacks and demand for silence. They obviously could care less what has been dumped to upscale the park! (The FOCP has announced that it will give a statement from UCD executive director at its annual demand for money. It is unknown if this will be a continued cover-up and assertion that only “dry fertilizer” has ever been used. Or, will the chemical use never be mentioned again?) Neighbors, how can we trust such continuously discredited stewardship and dishonest secret planning? I ask again, did anyone ever realize that Park A would be closed???? Closing a public space is a well documented tactic to dissolve stakeholder groups which use the space. That is what UCD/FOCP intended since the beginning! Closing the park completely also indicates the intention to go ahead with a complete redesign of the park, which was overwhelmingly rejected. Back in 2002-03, stakeholders and individual residents informed UCD/FOCP that the park was loved as is. The truth is that the overwhelming number of residents believe the park is great with its current design! Maintenance would not require closing the park!!!!!!!! Neighbors, if we allow FOCP/UCD to close the park, they will do exactly what they have planned since 2002! They must not be trusted!!!! Stop the FOCP/UCD! Please fight the claims that they represent this community and do not give them any money!!!!
