I found out earlier tonight that a vet student discovered the kitty Tuesday night (nr 47th & Pine, picking through garbage) and immediately took him in. Assuming he has no other home, she will be delighted to keep him. She's already had him checked out and he is getting along great with her other boy cat (also orange). His new name? "Ahab", of course!
