Neighbors,

The current UC Review reports a Penn civic engagement project by “invitation
only.” BIDS, special service districts, civic association leaders, and
developers will work secretly on a “public engagement” process for zoning
matters! Hahahaha

The Penn Praxis process sets up worthless statistical reports based on a series
of false dichotomies to "prove" a pre-conceived agenda. But the people of
Spruce Hill know that ALL of the problems with public engagement on zoning
issues arise from the back room dealings between those very untrustworthy
groups! (Remember Campus Inn!) The real answer for community engagement is
easy, and the public is the only group that needs to be invited to
“deliberations” Link below

C span reports a secret corporate insurance giveaway by invitation only. After
setting up a fake “partisan fight” last year, the health insurance companies
justify back room dealings despite President Obama’s overwhelming number of
promises for transparency of the debate via C span.

The Republicans get to be victims as they battle socialism for tea baggers (Fox
News,CNN). The Democrats get to be heroes by getting a “success” despite the
crazy Republicans and tea baggers (MSNBC, CNN). And the American people are
closed out of the secret dealings.

Everyone is to believe that back room dealings are required because of this
fake “partisan bickering” advanced 24 hours a day by corporate media. Isn’t
partisan bickering a sweet little package?

What does this have to do with replacing Penn’s policy of open expression with
censorship and tight control of neighborhood discussion (e.g. UC Neighbors)??
Censorship, closed archives, and exclusion of honest debate were justified as
needed for civility, now and 1000 years hence.

For ten years, our neighborhood has been a studied laboratory as populations
around the country have also been studied. Because communities around the US
failed to stand against the processes ALWAYS used to replace democratic
societies with some form of totalitarian system, we failed to insure an open
honest healthcare debate on C-span. Because we failed locally, we will never
get an honest debate/information about the world war and empire. If the people
in the hip "liberal" UC district fail , will the residents in Philadelphia
Mississippi do better?

Just as we surrendered West Philly to the control of Penn Real Estate, we
surrendered our republic to a corporate oligarchy. The underlying issues are
the same in Penn’s board rooms as they are on K street. Think about how
multi-site research works to form policy???? We turned our backs on democratic
processes and ethics, because in our fear, the ends justified the means.
