In order to maintain the gains made (since members confronted tactics to rule
this public information forum); this response needs to be immediately
confronted:
Mr West responds to a new post: "There are two neighborhood listserves you may
be referring to"
This absurd "misunderstanding" of a fellow subscriber's request for assistance
is fake! (It's easy to forget technical steps to refer a friend to this list,
just as people forget passwords. That is the help our neighbor obviously
requested in good faith.)
Mr West has shown a continuous effort to attack public discourse, and
simultaneously glorify the need for censorship and domination of information!
Once again, that was his goal. Consider his response carefully. In this case,
West's misunderstanding set-up was not done to his usual targets, but to a
neighbor making a first post, an understandable request for assistance!
Sure, a sophisticated writer could have still sang out the praises of
censorship and glorified the power of Penn's network, but was using the
dishonest "straw question" either civil or honest???? Many of us strive to
make our political positions clear to our neighbors. But consider West's
pattern of misunderstandings in terms of arrogance and deception. Doesn't it
appear that he is confident that the vast majority of us can't see that the
constructed misunderstandings are arrogant deceptions and attempts to
manipulate???
Intentional dishonesty and dependence on fallacious tactics are major roots of
incivility in our society. This type of tactic used on new participants to a
listserv has a "chilling effect" on speech and participation from normal
citizens.
(For further study of the fallacious straw man strategy see Mr. West's "Glenn's
Whores" series or "Ray Is A Liar" series in the public archives of the purple
list, available to the world)
Please support new participants on our vital community forum! Mr. West's
tactics have become a far outlier compared to the vast body of our neighbors'
posts.
Thanks for seriously considering this fallacious tactic, the chilling effect on
neighborhod communication, and such tactics as the most pernicious roots of
incivility in discourse! Mr. West has shown his abiity to abuse power to
silence participation at the Friends of Clark Park, a broken civic association
he has ruled since 2003. He can't destroy this public forum unless we allow
him to lash out unchecked!
Sincerely,
Glenn Moyer, citizen journalist
PS: The true roots of incivility are often confused with stern confrontation.
Deception is always a root of incivility even if cloaked with fake helpfulness,
while confrontation of deception is often attacked and mislabled as incivility.
