Good morning; My name is Wendell McKenzie, and I live at 454 S 48th Street around the corner from where I was questioned by the police. Yesterday, after I returned from early morning service at Mother Bethel AME I drove around the corner to a friend's home at 4918 Pine St, where I am often a visitor and welcome guest. His child let me into the home and the owner of 4918 Pine Street was at Church.
I was putting out trash which was to be picked up by my maintenance team as his house had been closed up for several days due to illness. I left the front door open and unlocked and I was closing the sun porch door as a 2 year old son was watching a video in the living room area. Additionally, I had no ID which I know now was in my truck parked across the street which I pointed out to the Officers. The only other person in the house was a teenage boy who lives in the house who I called to identify me to the Officer. I am not sure how many women take their children to rob house but I guess anything is possible. When I saw a shadow I panicked as I was assaulted by my ex-husband who was an appointed city official at the time of the assault. He pled guilty to the assault committed on 9/9/08; I currently have a restraining order and a current civil case pending. I carry for personal protection, I have a permit, and luckily my gun was in my truck as the person who owns the house does not like weapons. I am hoping to turn lemons into lemonade! The Police stated there had been a rash of break-ins in the neighborhood. I haven't heard a thing, not in an email or any of the University City Blogs that I monitor daily. Maybe we can have a community meeting to discuss what is happening and how we can protect our selves and neighbors. However, as I spoke to many of the neighbors yesterday everyone said they didn't make the call. I thought I was polite; maybe they just didn't want to tell. Or perhaps it was my Stalker watching who placed the call. So, I'd like to know who called to report the break did it come from a landline on the Block or from a cell phone that can't be traced. Or a cell phone that is listed with my Stalker. Next, I'd like to know exactly what the procedure is? I received no contact at all from the Officers after they entered the house. This has caused an argument among friends. I believe that the lead officer acted exemplary; however the second officer had questionable conversation. I was not given there names nor badge numbers all I can tell you is approximately the time as 12ish, and that there were six cars. I will be posting this letter to the University City Blogs and forwarding it to what I deem appropriate personal with the City of Philadelphia. How lucky we are that this turn out the way that it did. Officer Davis has also given me 18th District Crime Bullentin Burglary Alert. There will be copies of both notices available at Common Ground where I also work as a realtor. PCRO Mike Davis is going to come out to speak to us regarding the increase of burglaries in University City. I will be papering the Block that this incident occured on and the Block i live on. If anyone has any suggestions as to dates the Officer is more then will to speak with us on the topic of Burglary and any other issues we have. wendy Love is something that you can leave behind you when you die.
