Tonight was the first night of UC DINING DAYS - 2010. My daughter Katie and I enjoyed a magnificent meal at NAN.
We hope to try several different places in the next 2 weeks, but may have to return to NAN, as there were 5 choices in each of Appetizers, Entrees and Desserts. We were awed by the quality and quantity of our choices. I resisted the fabulous "Cold Cucumber Soup", which I enjoy on almost every visit, and we reluctantly passed on the Shrimp and Prosciutto appetizers. We scored with the "Arugula Salad with Peaches under a Chive-Watermelon Vinaigrette" and the "Portabella Mushroom in Puff Pastry". For Entrees we shared the "Peking Duck Breast with a Port wine Cherry reduction" and "Hawaiian Walu with a soy, ginger sauce". Both were yummy and served with warm rolls. We skipped the butter and mopped up the sauces. Each came with potatoes and fresh steamed vegetables. Our desserts were a homemade "Blueberry Sorbet" sparked with a dash of Balsamic vinegar and a hint of fig and I chose my perennial favorite, the Flo's "Creme Brulee" ever. Hard to ignore were the "Warm Chocolate Cake", "Peach Crisp" and "Fresh Fruit with creme anglaise". Portions were full size and filling. Taste was exquisite. the chef Kamoul Photek is a culinary genius. The service was attentive. The Linens clean and fresh, the flowers real. Katie who has tried many of the Center City Restaurant deals was pleased that her 'neighborhood' did not present reduced portions or 'special' (as in atypical or inferior choices). It was a great experience, worth repeating. We hope lots of our neighbors take advantage of the event. And I hope all of you enjoy your meal as much as we enjoyed ours. I know we want to try a few of the newer places on the list and Katie and her friends will sample at the $15.00 (for 3 courses!!!) establishments.
