I largely agree with Judge O'Connor's analysis of the abysmal indicators of civic literacy. However, the disaster has already arrived and we have a plutocracy. The destruction of civics education and civic literacy was not a failure, but a deliberate movement of the past several decades designed to destroy the Republic and citizenship.
The civics deficit, the attack on public education, and the demand for utilitarianism to replace citizenship all developed together. There is no tweaking the education system now, as she hopes, while ignoring the complete ideology of the neo-fascist movement.
The growing censorship, propaganda, super congress, police state, Citizens United supreme court, etc. are not going away if we now begin to teach principles, which were lost a long time ago.
We're in for a rough future just like the Egyptians and Tunisians have suffered under the same tyrannical ideology which rules us too! The tyranny we willingly exported to the rest of the world has come back home!
Don't forget, the non-violent occupation of lower Manhattan begins tomorrow!
