Subject: [UCNeighbors] Birdbaths

Dear Neighbors,
I hope that you will consider filling your birdbaths or other bowls
or lids with water for the birds. They're extremely dehydrated in
this high heat. I have a small birdbath in my backyard and it's
crowded, like the UC swim club, with birds. Sadly I neglected to
refill earlier today and found a full-grown dead bird in the
birdbath, apparently from dehydration (no signs of injury),
attempting to get at the tiny puddle at the bottom of it.
City birds have extremely stressful lives and do a lot of good--
eating mosquitoes and other pests, pollinating and fertilizing our
plants.
